What Sets Us Apart

At Christopher Haines DDS, we offer personalized dental care with a team that feels like old friends. Our bilingual staff are committed to delivering efficient, high-quality service in a patient-oriented environment.

We're proud to promote honesty and ethics in dentistry. We make sure there's no surprise costs or additional procedures outside the agreed-upon treatment plan.

We stay on schedule, because we think your time is just as important as ours.

Dr. Haines and the staff have worked together happily for decades. Ruby for example, has been with the family for 30 years. Everyone in the office is cross-trained to answer all patient questions.

We're also connected by similar values of compassion and respect. We are relaxed and comfortable with one another, and because we’re like family, our patients can tell our relationships with them and each other are genuine.

Experience Matters

Dr. Haines has had the pleasure of dedicating over 30 years to the treatment of patients, giving them the dental care and personal attention they deserve. Our practice in Honolulu offers patients a full range of comprehensive dental treatments including preventive, cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

Attention to Detail

Our patient’s first comprehensive examination usually lasts about an hour and a half. During their visit we’ll discuss their concerns, whether it’s a desire for a more beautiful smile or to address serious oral health issues. After diagnostic testing and evaluation, I present treatment options and share a comprehensive plan that specifically outlines their preferred pathway to a healthy and beautiful smile. I believe a comprehensive approach to dentistry is like looking at the whole forest instead of just the trees.

Personalized Care

It's important to keep up with the latest medical technologiesn in this modern world that we're living in, but I credit the success of my practice to a service approach which treats patients like family. At the end of the day, it’s not just about teeth or the treatments, but getting to know the patient and addressing his or her individual needs. Patients have different temperaments and circumstances and I believe those differences must be respected.

Our Team

Dr. Haines

Dr. Haines got both his MBA and Doctoral Degree in Dentistry from Indiana University in the early 1980's. He then moved to Hawaii and opened his downtown office in 1985 and has been very proud to consider it different from others as the team is centered on providing top-notch patient care. Dr. Haines worked for the Kalihi Palama clinic for 2 years as a children dentristry practitioner and has been a Rotarian for 30 years.

We believe that, too often, dental treatments are offered in response to a problem without also treating the source of the problem. A thorough evaluation of a patient’s lifestyle, chewing patterns, tooth arrangement and gum health allows more appropriate treatment of a dental condition for a more comfortable, long-lasting result.

When Dr. Haines is not working on his patients’ smiles, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren. He’s got 3 of them, which keeps his hands full. He also loves to travel. His latest adventure was a trip to Europe with his family. Make sure to ask him what his next endeavor will be when you see him next time. Dr. Haines was also a marathon runner in the past. He’s completed 7 Honolulu Marathons among others. But his biggest passion is soccer. He’s been playing in the over 45 league on Saturdays at Waipio Soccer Complex for many years now. You can also see him in action in Honolulu at the CoEd league on week nights at Ala Wai Community Park. Because of his involvement with the soccer he’s been known as the “soccer dentist” in the community. Stop by to one of those two parks to see left full back Chris Haines in action one of these days (or nights). Otherwise, stay tuned to his social media accounts for some great content. "I was a biter...hated dentists as much as they probably hated me...try stick your fat thumb in my mouth WITH all that buzzing and stuff, guarantee I'll bite you.

I found Dr.s Cardoza and Walsh, back in the day and stayed with them until they both retired...(gasp...how old am i? ohh wait...they retired because they wanted to LIVE it up without teeth drama) their fabulous hygienist Ruth earned my trust and gratitude for calm, professionalism and their decidedly focused efforts at pain-free dentistry.

Rule #1...get the gas.
Rule #2...wait to see the doc until after the gas leaves your cloudy mind."

Janet. Y - Honolulu, HI

"Chris has been my dentist for 25 year. I had some inferior dental work from previous dentists which was causing me discomfort at the time. He replaced it and it is all still good after all these years ! He understands my aversion to all medical procedure and always precedes carefully."

Barry B. - Honolulu

"Dr. Haines is a very competent, kind & pain free dentist. Found his office from their hygienist Ruth who is outstanding! Everyone including their front desk staff is wonderful.  I love going to the dentist- would highly recommend. Thanks Dr., Ruth, Rose & your entire staff for everything."

Teresa D. - Waialua, HI

"As a military officer on active duty I first went to Dr. Chris Haines when the dental clinic at Tripler was overbooked with a 6-8 week wait.  Dr Haines saw me the same week, and I could not have been more impressed with his level of professionalism, care, and expertise.  I have a Maryland bridge, requiring a bit more scaling and cleaning than normal, and Dr. Haines and his staff have always come through.  Since I've retired I have medical but not dental coverage, and Dr. Haines' reasonable rates are another reason that I'm so happy to have found such a great dentist!"

Tim S. - Honolulu, HI

"Dr. Haines is a great dentist that listens to his patients and is very professional. I highly recommend Dr. Haines for anyone in the downtown area that needs a dentist."

Dental Cleaning & Consultation

Preventative care is a foundation of dentistry. The American Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist regularly – usually about twice yearly – for full cleanings, examinations, and consultations for potential treatment. Professional dental cleanings help remove built-up plaque that is not removable using conventional brushing and flossing. Often, dentists are also capable of identifying potential problems that patients are not yet able to see or feel. When you maintain regular preventative dental appointments, you can stave off decay and gum disease, as well as identify the beginnings of oral health problems before they become severe.

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings, also known as tooth-colored fillings, are dental restorations designed to be inconspicuous and natural in appearance. They blend well with the teeth and appear more natural than amalgam fillings, which are darker and more visible. Composite fillings can be used to fill in decayed areas of the teeth, as well as to help repair chipped or broken teeth. Most dentists use composite restorations to treat the teeth closest to the front of the mouth, as they are more noticeable when patients smile. However, advancements in dental technology and the composition of composite fillings have made it possible for Dr. Main to also use tooth-colored fillings on molars, which receive more wear than other teeth.

Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are custom-fitted tooth prosthetics that are used to replace or restore damaged or missing teeth. Crowns, also known as “caps”, are fixed over the surfaces of natural tooth structures or dental implants. Bridges are used to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and are anchored in place by the natural teeth on either side of the empty space. Both crowns and bridges are permanent, they may not be taken in and out of the mouth. Patients who choose a crown or a bridge to restore their smile achieve both the function and appearance of natural, healthy teeth.

Dental implants are surgical-grade root devices that support permanent tooth prosthetics that are manufactured to last a lifetime. These artificial roots are anchored in the bone beneath the gums where they become fused into the jaw. A crown is mounted atop the implant for a long-lasting and natural looking smile. Many dentists and patients prefer dental implants because they offer the same function as natural teeth and also help prevent bone atrophy in the jaw. Dental implants may be used to replace a single missing or damaged tooth or to restore an entire smile.

Dental Extraction Honolulu

Tooth extractions are routine dental procedures used to remove decayed, damaged or otherwise problematic teeth. Dentists usually make every effort to preserve natural teeth, although sometimes an extraction is necessary. Although the procedure is performed in a dentist’s or oral surgeon’s office, it is considered surgery. Depending on which teeth are removed, they may be replaced with a dental implant or another oral prosthetic.

Root Canals

Root canals are valuable dental procedures used to treat and preserve teeth with badly infected roots. The pulp is the live portion of the tooth that extends into the root and contains nerve endings and tissues. When it becomes infected, patients can experience pain, swelling and even total tooth loss unless treated. Root canals remove the damaged parts of the tooth and infected root. In some cases, an antibiotic is prescribed to help prevent further infection within the tooth. The organic portion of the tooth that remains may be restored using a cap or crown that provides a natural appearance and normal tooth function.

Dentures Honolulu

Dentures are an effective and affordable way of replacing missing teeth. Composed of a durable plastic resin and sometimes porcelain, both partial and full dentures can be fabricated to look and feel natural. Today’s dentures are custom-fit to make it possible to eat foods with confidence and speak articulately. Depending on the patient’s preferences and budget, dentures can be crafted for maximum comfort and fracture resistance backed up by limited warranties.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a colorless blend of oxygen and nitrous oxide gases with a pleasant, sweet smell and taste. Inhaling nitrous oxide creates a sense of well-being and relaxation, and it is used effectively to help individuals who experience anxiety or fear about dental treatment feel more at ease. Nitrous oxide increases your pain threshold and, when necessary, makes the administration of anesthetic injections more comfortable. It is also helpful for patients who have a strong gag reflex that interferes with dental treatment.
> Nitrous oxide is one of the safest anti-anxiety agents used in dentistry and has very few risks and side effects.
> Nitrous oxide is non-addictive, and you will remain fully conscious during treatment.
> Administration is comfortable and painless, involving no more than a mask over the nose. This makes it an excellent option for children with dental anxieties or individuals with mental or physical disabilities.
> Feelings of calm and relaxation are felt almost immediately, and breathing pure oxygen for several minutes after treatment completely reverses the effects.
